When Jenn & Kris first contacted me, they envisioned a private Paris elopement ceremony followed by wedding photos around the city – in the afternoon.
As an experienced marriage officiant in Paris, I usually recommend planning elopements early in the morning, ideally at sunrise, to avoid the crowds that can become very dense later in the day, especially at famous locations such as the Eiffel Tower or the Louvre.
Since Jenn & Kris had booked a private venue for their ceremony, the later timing was no problem for exchanging their vows. Taking wedding photos in Paris in the afternoon, however, can be more challenging – unless you are open to locations that are a little less obvious than the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and other iconic landmarks. Those famous places are certainly beautiful, but they are not the only way to experience a wedding in Paris.

Why Afternoon Photos in Paris Need a Different Approach
One of the most common planning questions I receive as a Paris elopement planner is whether wedding photos can work later in the day. The answer is yes, absolutely, but you need to choose the right elopement locations if you don’t want to be surrounded by crowds.
The most famous landmarks in Paris are at their quietest in the early morning. Later on, they become crowded and busy, which changes not only the experience significantly for couples hoping for calm, intimate moments, but also the photography result.
Because Jenn & Kris wanted their ceremony in the early afternoon, I suggested a different route. Rather than chasing the busiest tourist spots, we chose elegant, authentic, itimate and romantic Paris elopement locations that remain beautiful, photogenic, and enjoyable later in the day. That small shift made all the difference.
A Quiet Corner of the Tuileries Garden & Paris Bridge Views
After I had officiated their private Paris elopement cermeony, our first stop was a quieter section of the Tuileries Garden. While many visitors remain close to the central walkways, there are corners of the gardens that still feel peaceful and refined. Here, Jenn & Kris were able to enjoy soft greenery framing an elegant alley with a view toward the Louvre Palace.
It offered a lovely first transition after the ceremony. Calm, spacious, and unmistakably Parisian. For couples planning an intimate wedding in Paris, the Tuileries can be a beautiful choice when you know exactly where to go.
From there, we continued to a nearby bridge overlooking the Seine. Bridges in Paris are often overlooked for wedding photography, yet they offer some of the most graceful city perspectives. From this spot we had beautiful city views, especially toward the Musée d’Orsay, famous for its Impressionist collection.
What I love most about bridge locations is how naturally couples move there. They walk, pause, talk, laugh, and simply enjoy each other. Those in-between moments often become the most memorable photographs. For Jenn & Kris, it brought a feeling of lightness and movement into the day.
Why Île Saint-Louis Is One of the Best Paris Elopement Locations
We finished at one of my favorite places for a Paris elopement: Île Saint-Louis.
This small island in the Seine has a rare quality. It feels deeply Parisian without feeling performative or overly busy. It has charm, elegance, and atmosphere in a way that feels natural rather than staged.
Walking through Île Saint-Louis, you move from elegant bridges to stone staircases leading down to the riverbanks. You pass cobblestone quays, classic façades of typical Parisian architecture, colorful wooden doors, cozy Café terraces, and narrow streets full of this typical Parisian vivbe. There are hidden gardens and corners that surprise you when you least expect them.
For wedding photos, it offers extraordinary variety within a short walking distance. For couples, it offers the chance to simply experience Paris together while beautiful moments unfold naturally around them. Jenn & Kris loved this part of the day because nothing felt forced. They could walk, take in the city, stop at a Café terrace, and enjoy the moment as newlyweds.
Can You Also Have an Elopement Ceremony at Île Saint-Louis?
Absolutely. Île Saint-Louis can also be a beautiful location for a private wedding ceremony in Paris – especially earlier in the day when it is quieter.
